The No. 1 Question That Anyone Working In Double Pushchair Should Be Able Answer

Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around with a light double pushchair, especially if you have kids of different ages. They're typically simple to fold, steer, and transport up and down stairs.

This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom, adjustable reclining and massive UPF 50+ canopy with peekaboo windows. It also has an expanding frame the width to accommodate a second car seat or another passenger.

Side-by-Side

The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs that we tested were side-by-side models. These are the best for children who can sit without assistance, as they aren't as likely to have compatibility with car seats. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They offer adjustable recline for both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They are also simple to move around, despite their larger footprint. They are perfect for parents who fret about getting through doors.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands in width to accommodate an additional seat, which makes it lighter than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating available. It is able to pass through standard doors and is easy to maneuver on public transportation. It is also an jogger which is perfect if you plan to use it in conjunction with an infant car seat or a baby carrier.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another fantastic side-by-side double that is lightweight. It allows for an even greater degree of customization due to a modular frame. It features a clever design that lets you turn it into a single stroller or a double by adding 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even accommodate twins). It's an outstandingly practical choice for growing families and the UPPAbaby makes one of the lightest and most stylish umbrella strollers available.

Try the egg2, which can be folded down to the size and weight of a compact suitcase. It can be used either as a double or single by adding 2 carrycots or baby car seats. Our test subjects were awed by the ease of move around even with a load of kids.

Even though they are lightweight double pushchairs that sit side-by-side are not foolproof. If your children are of the same age and stage, they may still argue over who gets to sit in which seat. And if they're different heights, a tandem style might be more suitable for them since it lets them look at each other.

Tandem

While side-byside models are better for children of similar age group, tandem light double strollers come with distinct appeals. Some can fit a larger car seat and some have reversible seats. Others have an additional carrycot or convertible seat in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easy to get in and out of, although their baskets are usually smaller than the ones on single buggies. Many have larger canopies, peekaboo windows and even cushioned leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach tandem is another great example of a lightweight tandem that offers great value. The fabrics are a little less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks fantastic and is simple to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. Even though it requires some practice, Kirstie from our Lab described it as "genius". It's not foldable with the carrycot attached, but the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and fast.

Tandem strollers that are lightweight typically have tighter turning capabilities than side-by-side models. However, they can be more difficult to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slow to accelerate and may be heavier to move, which can result in stress on your back.

Another alternative is a convertible  double buggy  which starts off as an individual and then you can add adapters that turn it into a double. They can include an additional seat, a carrycot or both in front. Children can share a seat. Some may have the option of adding a buggyboard, which assists an older child to keep pace with a younger brother or sister.

The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. The cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. They can be joined or placed side-by-side. You can also use the car seat that was included with the pushchair, in the event that it is compatible. Since they are made of high-quality materials, these kinds of buggies with dual-use capabilities can be used for a long time without showing any wear, meaning they have the highest potential for resale.

Single-to-Double

This light double buggy was designed for outdoor-loving family who would like to upgrade from a single-stroller. It can be converted into a jogger with a kit that includes air-filled tires and all-wheel-suspension. It's also a great option for twins or children from different ages and, as a triple tandem, it's able to take on rough terrain. It's also a good choice for parents looking for a stylish design that's as sleek as a single and comes in a variety of fabrics.

This iCandy model is incredibly easy to fold using the use of a single hand. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's mobile even with two toddlers and a carrycot.

You can purchase additional items like the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) that are ideal for infants. Our test panel found the seats to be comfortable for toddlers, with excellent lumbar support and headrests. There are many options for reclined seats with the front seat adjustable in various positions and the back seat having a reclining option.

This type of buggy comes with the greatest disadvantage of being a bit wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways, and it can be difficult to get between kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension on these types of strollers generally perform well in coping with paved surfaces and the fact that they're generally significantly lighter than the side-bysides means that you still have plenty of storage space. It's important to remember that these strollers aren't as good at navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets and can struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. Although  double pram and pushchair 's much easier to turn the stroller around on a narrow, curving path, this can still be a problem. Some are easier to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are great because they are able to be adapted to the changing needs of a family. They often start out as single buggies, but include adapters to add an additional seat, carrycot or (in some instances) a car seat to the frame. Some of them can be converted back to a single as your child grows older and begins to walk more or wants to ride on a buggy board.

This stylish tri-fold double stroller is one of the lightest strollers on our list. It can carry up to 40lbs per child, and includes an integrated storage basket between the seats. Home users loved its large canopy with windows that peek out with multi-position reclining seats as well as front and rear suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain. It also has a handy cup holder for the parent as well as an enormous, easily accessible basket. They also noted that the backs have tiny pockets, which are only large enough to hold phones and keys.

This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 configurations. It also includes a second chair and carrycot. It has a distinctive steering handlebar, rear and front suspensions that smooth rough terrain and a compact fold that stands up on its own with straps to make it easy to transport and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks as well as ten-inch back wheels with suspensions for an easier ride. The only drawback is that you'll need to purchase a separate baby carriage or car seat.

This multi-functional tandem is the top choice of our home testers due to the fact that it is simple to maneuver and features a large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats when in the parent-facing positions. It is simple to move around due to its surprisingly low weight (about the equivalent of some single pushchairs). The seats are reversible, which means that you can switch them around to face either way, and the clever way it attaches an additional seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from multiple brands, including some that don't normally fit in other double buggies.
